I write science fiction, fantasy, and young adult stories.
I enjoy science fiction because science, technology, engineering, and math fascinates me. I’m a geek at heart. I love STEM and I dabble in it when I have the whim.
My enjoyment of science fiction stems… hehe… from my love of the subject. I find science fiction to be a gateway to discovering and discussing philosophical and ethical topics. I enjoy fantasy for the same reason, and because I love the way it activates my imagination. There’s a part of me that is a magical creature and desires to be shared. 🙂
Young adult stories interest me because I enjoy reading about coming of age, identity crises, and the power and potential of young people- most young people are a lot smarter and a lot more capable than most adults give them credit for. I heard a 12 year-old girl give a speech about how adults can learn just as much from children as children can from adults (one of many great TED talks I’ve seen); even she admired that “Adults often underestimate kid’s abilities. We love challenges, but when expectations are low, trust me, we will sink to them.” Both children and adults need to know that there are smart kids out there, right now they may only come in the form of Harry Potter, Ender Wiggin, or Artemis Fowl, but this could change…
Sorry, what was I talking about? 😉
